My Record Collection by We Are The Ocean's Tom Whittaker

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of We Are The Ocean sticksman Tom Whittaker, let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was...

"That would be Revolutions Per Minute by Rise Against. When I first started playing drums in my garage with friends the song 'Like the Angel' was on repeat."

The record that made me want to be in a band was...

"Hell Freezes Over by the Eagles. My dad used to have this DVD on all the time and I remember being blown away by how good it sounds. Every song was a tune."

The record I've played more than any other is...

"Led Zeppelin 1 probably. I think from the first time listening to Led Zeppelin I was hooked and its still one of my most played records."

The record that always make me feel good is...

"Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. What a feel good tune, nothing like a hot summers day with a beer and a bbq with Bob Marley on."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is...

"James Taylor - Carolina in my Mind. This song makes me forget my problems and just relax and listen."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is...

"The Band -  'The Night They Drove The Old Dixie Down'. This song is unreal and the way the band used to perform it is incredible, Levon Helm had such a voice and what he would play on the drums at the same time is really something that everyone needs to appreciate."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication. This is one image that always sticks in my head, and what a great album too."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Oasis - Definitely Maybe. I really like this title. It's interesting one and I think it defines me as a person."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything Morrissey does. Don't get it."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2015 is…

"Sounds cheesy, but it's our new album ARK, which comes out on May 11th."

The last record I bought was…

"HAIM - Days Are Gone. Great album, it has a really cool 80s feel to it. I saw them at Radio 1's Big Weekend and they were incredible."

The greatest record of all time is…

"It's one from Led Zeppelin 1,2,3. I love the way these records sound and I love the way it was recorded, it makes it sound so natural and full of feel. A big part of what we try to achieve in the studio is influenced by these."

We Are The Ocean's new album ARK will be released on May 11th. You can pre-order it in store now.
