My Record Collection by Zac Farro

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week it's the turn of Zac Farro, currently drumming on the new Paramore album and preparing to release the latest album from his HalfNoise project. Let's see what he picks...

You can check out some of Zac's picks in this playlist...

wThe first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think the first record I ever bought was Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun. I had purchased random CDs at garage sales before that but this my first record store purchase."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Wow, this is a tough one. There were so many, but I'll pick Jimmy Eat World - Clarity. I used to listen to this on repeat on my CD player and l loved every drum fill and parts on the album. Zach Lind has always been such a musical drummer and like most of the drummers I looked up to, they all play for the song instead of themselves."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I think I have a tie. Tame Impala - Lonerism and George Harrison - All Things Must Pass. I really don't know which one I've listened to more. When I lived in New Zealand I only had Lonerism on my iPod. It wast perfect for that time and place. I have so many memories connected to that record. That being said, when I first heard ‘All Things Must Pass’ I lost my mind. Couldn’t believe my what I'd heard. So that's been a go to ever since I first heard it as well."

The record that always make me feel good is…

"This is an easy answer! Jacque Dutronc - Et Moi Et Moi Et Moi. Last summer I bought an above ground pool, which is so brutal, but this album was the soundtrack for that pool. It always lifts my mood when I listen to it. I don’t think another summer will go buy without listening to it."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I would have to say it's probably The White Birch - Come Up for Air. I've listened to this album countless times while feeling low or moody. It's such a beautifully slow moving album and when I’m sad I feel slow and its the perfect tempo."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"This is Opossom - Electric Hawaii. One of my favorite artists from New Zealand. Every time I listen to it, I can’t believe its not bigger than it is."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Radiohead - In Rainbows is one of my favorite covers. The artwork in general is some of my favorites of all time. Thats one of the hardest things being an artist is seeing a new Radiohead album cover and feeling like nothing you make is good enough."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Talking Heads - Remain In Light. David Byrne in my opinion is one of the greatest lyricists of all time. This album title just resonates with a lot with me."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"This one is not really that I don't understand why everybody loves Matchbox 20, it's more that I don't understand why Rob Thomas doesn't EXCLUSIVELY play with Santana."

The last record I bought was…

"The Clientele - Suburban Light. it's a bit of an older album, but sometimes it takes a while to find great music. As I’ve gotten older I have loved diving into older albums from artists like the Kinks, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones Etc. I love that the Clientele pulls a lot from older records but is a more current band. It's a mix of some of my favorite bands."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2017 is…

"My favorite album of last year was Tame Impala - Currents. So I'd have to say I'm hoping for a new Tame Impala record."

The greatest record of all time is…

"This is The Beatles - Rubber Soul. This one is difficult, But this record to me is the greatest of all time on so many levels. I know you could probably say that about every Beatles album, But this one means the most to me and I feel like it encompasses so many of the elements I love about that band. Every song is incredible and timeless. This has to be my pick."
