One Direction, Katy Perry, Beyoncé win big at American Music Awards 2014

Katy Perry, One Direction and Beyoncé were the big winners at last night's (November 23rd) American Music Awards. 

The ceremony was hosted by Pitbull and took place in Los Angeles, with One Direction in attendance to collect the awards for Artist of the Year, Favourite Band, Duo or Group and Favourite Album in the Pop/Rock categories.

Perry was not in attendance as she is on tour in Australia, but did send video acceptances as she won the award for Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist and Single of the Year for 'Dark Horse'.

5 Seconds Of Summer continued their stellar year as they collected the award for New Artist Of The Year

Sam Smith picked up the award for Favourite Male Artist in Pop/Rock, while Iggy Azalea won two awards in the hip-hop category, Favourite Artist and Favourite Album for her debut album The New Classic. Beyoncé also picked up two awards, one for the Favourite Female Artist in Soul/R'N'B and the best album gong in the same category. 

Other winners on the night were Calvin Harris, Enrique Iglesias, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, John Legend, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, Casting Crowns and the Frozen soundtrack.
