Red Hot Chili Peppers confirmed as headliners for Reading & Leeds 2016
Funk-rock veterans Red Hot Chili Peppers have become the first confirmed headline act for next year’s Reading & Leeds festivals, marking the first time they’ve topped the bill there since 2007.
The Chilis have had a new album in the pipeline for a while now, stating last year that they had “30 songs completed”. Although there is yet to be a confirmed release date, the band are lining up a series of shows in Europe next summer as well as some other festival appearances, indicating that we could see a new album arrive in the first half of next year.
Festival organiser Melvin Benn said yesterday:
"I’m thrilled to be able to announce Red Hot Chili Peppers as the first headliner for Reading & Leeds 2016, as a festival exclusive. Their incredible live show will be an unforgettable headline performance at the UK's biggest music festival. We’ve still got some really exciting names to announce and I can’t wait to reveal the rest of the line up. It’s going to be our best year yet."
Other acts confirmed to be on the bill next year include Slaves, Courteeners, Twenty One Pilots and Boy Better Know.
