The Killer Instinct

by Black Star Riders

Released on Nuclear Blast

The sophomore effort from Black Star Riders (who, for the uninitiated, are essentially Thin Lizzy with Ricky Warwick on vocals) provides one of the best classic rock releases this year.

While the music is undeniably Lizzy, with trademark harmonised guitars and celtic influences abound (particularly evident on 'Soldierstown') and Ricky doing an almost scary Phil Lynott on some tracks, it’s fresh and full of energy.

The title track and brilliantly titled 'Sex Guns and Gasoline' provide upbeat rock to mingle with the odd ballad making for a fresh album that is just the right amount of reverence to the band’s past without ever becoming a pastiche.
