Are We There

by Sharon Van Etten

Released on Jagjaguwar

Are We There? is a deeply personal and dualistic album about being caught between love, devotion, and despair.

Tracks like 'Your Love is Killing Me' bring cavalier style drums and grand orchestral accompaniment to actualise harsh realisations “cut my tongue so I can’t talk to you, burn my skin so I can’t feel you” might be the darkest lyric she’s ever written.

But it’s tracks like 'Our Love'; a song with the sort of softened beats you’d come to associate with The XX’s second album and the harmonious sensitivity of Joni Mitchell, that truly show off the strength of her voice.
