Tributes pour in for Sharon Jones after singer loses long battle with cancer

This weekend brought the sad news that soul singer Sharon Jones, best-known as the lead vocalist with The Dap-Kings, has died following a long and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 60.

Jones had been battling the disease for several years and had been receiving medical attention over the last few days after she reportedly suffered a stroke on the night of the U.S. election. An official statement read:


“We are deeply saddened to share the news that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.

“In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations:

The Lustgarten Foundation

James Brown Family Foundation

Little Rids Rock
