Bio

.

The Saturdays burst onto the scene in 2008 when their debut album Chasing Lights rocketed them to the upper echelons of UK pop, and that’s where they’ve stayed ever since. Una, Rochelle, Mollie, Frankie and Vanessa have become expert purveyors of sassy, fun exciting pop music, and since the dissolution of Girls Aloud last year they have become the undisputed champions of British girls groups.

Next Monday (August 11th) sees them take a victory lap with the release of their first best-of compilation with Finest Selection: The Greatest Hits, cherry-picking hits from across their seven year career.

So if you need a primer on the girls, here’s our pick of their greatest tracks…

The Saturdays - What Are You Waiting For?

Chasing Lights

Up

It was their second single from Chasing Lights that really established The Saturdays as a pop force to be reckoned with. A stomping beat and electro-tinged percussion that resembled classic 80s pop builds to a monster chorus made the song inescapable in late 2008.

Wordshaker

Forever Is Over

The lead single from their sophomore album Wordshaker saw The Saturdays go for a more sleek, pop-rock approach. Written by original Busted member James Bourne, the track starts out with duelling vocals and then thunders into a soaring Kelly Clarkson-style sing-into-a-hairbrush chorus.

Headlines

Higher ft. Flo Rida

After Flo Rida beat two of their tracks off the UK number one spot, the girls decided to team up with the Miami rapper. Higher is a breezy, synth heavy and phenomenally catchy cliché of vintage Saturdays. It’s a real highlight from 2010’s Headlines!

On Your Radar

All Fired Up

The Saturdays got ravey with this storming EDM influenced banger that opens their fourth record On Your Radar. As you might expect from a song that has seven credited writers – including super-producers Xenomania, MNEK and Space Cowboy – it’s sounds very busy, but more is definitely a good thing when is comes to a perfect Saturday night club track like this.

Living For The Weekend

Disco Love

The clue is in the name – this could practically be a Donna Summer song (she’s even name-checked in the lyrics). Funky guitars, pounding synth pads and even a cheeky bit of saxophone in there make it an incredibly fun summer anthem. ‘What About Us’ featuring Sean Paul was the biggest smash from their latest album Living For The Weekend, but ‘Disco Love’ was definitely it’s best song.

Finest Selection: The Greatest Hits is available from your local hmv store on August 11th.
