Over the next 10 days we're going to be previewing 100 of 2017's best movies. Today it's the sequels...

 

T2: Trainspotting

 

What Is It?

20 years on we return to find out what Renton. Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie have all been up to.

 

Who’s In It?

The sequel reunites the 1996 classic's original cast of Robert Carlyle, Ewan Bremner, Kelly MacDonald, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewan McGregor.

 

And Who’s Behind The Camera?

Danny Boyle directs once again and John Hodge once again provides the screenplay.

 

Any Plot Details?

The new movie picks up 20 years after the original and sees McGregor's Mark Renton returning home to visit his old friends, the same friends he abandoned all that time ago after stealing £16,000 from them.

 

When Can I See It?

It’s out on January 27th.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

 

What Is It?

The dapper super agents return for a second outing.

 

Who’s In It?

Taron Egerton, Sophie Cookson, Colin Firth (in what role we don’t know) and Mark Strong are all back for the sequel and they are joined by Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal and Elton John.

 

And Who’s Behind The Camera?

Matthew Vaughn directs again, he works from a script he’s co-written with Jane Goldman, adapting Mark Millar’s firebrand comic books.

 

Any Plot Details?

We’re off to the USA for this sequel as Eggsy, Roxy and the rest of the team join forces with Statesman, Kingsman's American counterpart, after the HQ is destroyed by Poppy, a nefarious criminal mastermind.

 

When Can I See It?

We’d expected it in the summer, but now it’s out on October 6th.

Pitch Perfect 3

 

What Is It?

We return to see the Barden Bellas for a third and possibly final time.

 

Who’s In It?

Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Shelley Regner, Hailee Steinfeld and Chrissie Fit are all confirmed to return for the third outing.

 

And Who’s Behind The Camera?

Elizabeth Banks has stepped away from the new movie and has been replaced by Trish Sie, who directed Step Up All In.

 

Any Plot Details?

One crucial one, this movie will be set at Christmas so expect a few a capella takes on festive classics.

 

When Can I See It?

It’s due on December 22nd.

John Wick: Chapter 2

 

What Is It?

Keanu Reeves returns for a second go as the dog-loving hitman.

 

Who’s In It?

As well as Keanu we’ve got Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane.  

 

And Who’s Behind The Camera?

Chad Stahelski returns to direct the sequel with the script coming from Derek Kolstad.

 

Any Plot Details?

Reeves returns as legendary hitman John Wick. This time he is forced out of retirement once again by a former associate who is plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome, where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers.

 

When Can I See It?

It’s out on February 17th, just after Valentine’s Day.

Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Unfortunately these new residents become a new target for Annabelle, the demon possessed doll, who sets about in her wicked way.

In this instalment we find our hero Lightning McQueen has become blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers and is being pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game he will need the help of eager young female race technician Cruz Ramirez and a lot of willpower...

Paddington 2

 

What Is It?

After the success of the beloved bear’s first outing we’re getting some more...

 

Who’s In It?

Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Imelda Staunton, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin will all reprise their roles in the sequel with Ben Whishaw back to voice Paddington.

There are two new additions to the cast with Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson joining for the sequel. Grant will play Windsor Gardens’ local celebrity Phoenix Buchanan, a vain, charming acting legend whose star has fallen somewhat in recent years, while Brendan Gleeson plays Knuckles McGinty, a notorious safe-cracker and legendary strongman who becomes an unexpected new ally for Paddington.

Paul King returns to direct and has co-written the script with Simon Farnaby.

 

Any Plot Details?

Now settled at home with the Brown family, Paddington’s new adventure sees him spot a unique pop-up book in Mr. Gruber's antique shop and embark upon a series of odd jobs to buy it. But when the book is stolen, it's up to Paddington and the Browns to unmask the thief and recover the book.

Underworld: Blood Wars

 

What Is It?

The vampire and lycans are back for a fifth face-off...

 

Who’s In It?

Kate Beckinsale returns to star once again with Divergent's Theo James returning as David, the ally of Beckinsale's character Selene, after debuting the character in Underworld: Awakening.

Also joining the cast are Bradley James, Tobias Menzies and Lara Pulver, while Charles Dance also returns to reprise his role as Thomas, a vampire elder and father of David.  



And Who’s Behind The Camera?

The new instalment has been directed by Anna Foerster, who has acted as second unit director on a series of blockbusters, including The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day. It is her debut as a director.

 

Any Plot Details?

We pick up the story directly after Underworld: Awakening with Beckinsale's Selene now a target for both lycans and vampires. Despite the grave danger, Selene quickly realises she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
