Amy Schumer pulls out of starring role in Barbie movie
Amy Schumer has pulled out of her starring role in the live-action, big-screen adaptation of Barbie.
Schumer, who had signed up to lead and re-write the movie, has cited scheduling conflicts for her decision.
She told Variety: "Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen."
In the movie, Schumer was due to play a character who lives in Barbieland among the 180 different barbies with different careers and winds up getting kicked out as she is a bit eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mould. She then goes on an adventure in the real world but returns to Barbieland to save it from destruction.
The movie is still scheduled to hit cinemas in the summer of 2018 with the hunt now on for both a director and new star for the film.
There have been 36 animated Barbie movies made over the years, but this would be the first live-action take on the hugely successful range of toys.
