Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to direct Captain Marvel
It's been a busy already in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with James Gunn confirming he is set to direct a third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also announcing that Spider-Man will make an appearance in Avengers 4, but now there's more news from the studio, this time involving Captain Marvel.
Slated for release in 2019, Captain Marvel already has its lead in Brie Larsson, who will take on the role of the titular hero and her alter-ego Carol Danvers, but yesterday it was revealed that the film now has its director – two of them, in fact.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the pair who have worked together on films such as Sugar and Mississippi Grind, have now been confirmed as the film's directors, continuing Marvel's recent trend of hiring up-and-coming indie directors to handle their new franchises.
Boden and Fleck are perhaps best-known for their work on Half Nelson, which starred Ryan Gosling and was written and directed by the pair, but more recently they've also worked together to direct several episodes of Showtime's hit series Billions, starring Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti.
This time they'll be working from a script provided by Inside Out writer Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman, who has already worked on several films in the Marvel stable including Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Widow. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in March 2019.
