Ansel Elgort and Taron Egerton in running for leading role in Pirates Of The Caribbean 5

The Fault In Our Stars leading man Ansel Elgort, Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton and Pride's George Mackay are all reportedly in contention for the lead role in Pirates Of The Caribbean 5.

Production on the fifth film in the series, which is to be titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is set to begin in February of next year, with Johnny Depp returning to lead as Captain Jack Sparrow.

According to Deadline.com, starring alongside Depp's Sparrow will be a young male lead called Henry and producers Disney are currently lining up candidates for the part. As well as Elgort, Egerton and Mackay, Maleficent's Brenton Thwaites, Descendant's Mitchell Hope and In The Heart Of The Sea's Sam Keeley are all reportedly under consideration.

The script is written by Catch Me If You Can's Jeff Nathanson, with Norwegian pair  Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg directing. Javier Bardem is rumoured to be in talks to play the film's villain.

The filming will take place in Queensland after producers Disney agreed a deal with the Australian government, who agreed to put just under $20 million towards the film.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due to be released on July 7th, 2017.
