Avatar 2 delayed once again, sequel now expected after 2018
Avatar 2 has been delayed once again and is now not expected to be released until after 2018.
The sequel to the hugely successful adventure movie was originally due to be in cinemas by Christmas 2016 but was delayed at the start of 2015 until the end of 2017.
That release date was then cancelled, but it was expected that the movie would emerge in 2018, however, director James Cameron says that is now off the table too. That means that should the movie arrive in 2019, the earliest we can now expect to see it, it will have been a full 10 years between the first movie and the sequel.
Speaking about the delay, Cameron told the Toronto Star: "Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date."
Then asked what the reason for the delay was, the director reiterated that he will be shooting four sequels to Avatar and getting everything in place to make that happen is hugely time-consuming.
He added: "What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases, So we’re not making Avatar 2, we’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam. So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it.”
Then asked about what viewers could expect, Cameron said: "It’s pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we’re going to draw that curtain when the time is right."
