Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

Various directors, producers and studio heads have been trying to make it happen for decades, but it’s finally here, The Man Of Steel and The Dark Knight are facing off in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Henry Cavill returns as Superman with Ben Affleck making his debut as Batman and Gal Gadot becoming the first actress to play Wonder Woman on the big screen. The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg takes on the role of Lex Luthor while Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne also return. There’s also a new Alfred, with Jeremy Irons taking over from Michael Caine as Batman’s biddable, wise-cracking butler.

We begin as the epic climax of Man Of Steel is unfolding, with the destruction enraging Bruce Wayne, a rage he decides to put to good use by taking on Superman, fearing the consequences if a god-like superhero is left unchecked. Trouble is while those two are duking it out, a brand new threat arises, a monster that will take the both of them to deal with

It’s cost over $250 million to produce and hits DVD shelves on Monday (August 1st). Among the editions released is a Blu-Ray Steelbook exclusive to hmv and an 'Ultimate Edition', which contains 30 minutes that did not make it into the theatrical cut. You can find more details about the DVD release here.

Back when the film was about to hit cinemas we caught a screening and rounded up five reasons you'll love it...

It looks incredible…

The action set pieces, of which there are many, are breathtaking. It’s gadgets and explosions galore and the final showdown with Doomsday, the repulsive creature you see in the film’s final trailer, is particularly stunning.

It’s a long watch, but they cram in so much…

With a new Batman, new Wonder Woman, new Lex Luthor and new wider universe to set up there is an awful lot of heavy lifting to be done with the story, giving the film a hefty running time that goes well past the two-hour mark. But you’ll never be bored, the film is absolutely relentless and very, very loud.

Ben Affleck is worthy of the cape…

One of the main talking points in the many months of build-up to this movie was the decision to hand the cape and cowl to Ben Affleck. But we’re happy to report he’s on excellent form here, gruff, broody and a total badass.

Jesse Eisenberg eats all of the scenery...

There have been lots of different takes on Lex Luthor over the years, but Eisenberg has gone for a gloriously over the top approach. He’s a ball of energy a constant stream with pompous philosophising, but there are the occasional twitches of something very frightening. He’s ever so watchable and we haven’t seen the last of him...

There are plenty of new friends to meet…

We won’t give too much away, but with the Justice League all set to come together in 2017 most people knew they’d show up at some point. So we get to meet The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and, of course, Wonder Woman. It should get you all very excited for Justice League and for their solo outings.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is out in cinemas from tomorrow (March 25th) and is available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-Ray and hmv exclusive Steelbook on the right-hand side of the page.
