Benedict Cumberbatch to voice The Grinch in new animated How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Benedict Cumberbatch is to voice The Grinch in a new adaptation of Dr Seuss's classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas

The new adaptation is being produced by Illumination, the production company responsible for Despicable Me and the forthcoming The Secret Life Of Pets. It will be released in November with Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney directing the new adaptation. 

How The Grinch Stole Christmas tells the story of the Grinch, who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his neighboring village of Whoville, it was last put on screen in 2000 with Jim Carrey in the title role. You can check it out here in our online store. 

According to Variety, the company has also confirmed that South Park co-creator Trey Parker will voice the villain in Despicable Me 3, playing a character named Balthazar Bratt. 

Cumberbatch will next be seen on screen in Marvel's Doctor Strange, the first trailer for which debuted yesterday. You can watch that here.
