Captain America: Civil War writers reveal why Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is absent from movie

Captain America: Civil War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have explained why Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury was not in the movie.

Jackson has appeared as Fury in seven of Marvel's 13 movies thus far, but does not make an appearance in their latest outing, despite playing a key role in the previous instalment of Captain America.

Asked by the Los Angeles Times why Fury was absent, Markus said: "Primarily it felt like one too many possible opinions. We didn't want him to take one side or the other, because that's not his place in the universe. And then we didn't want another, ‘Is he still with the government? Is he opposed to the government but supporting the government?’"

He continued: "It got to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussion that the movie did not have room for."

Captain America: Civil War is in cinemas now and available to pre-order on DVD and Blu-Ray on the right-hand side of the page.
