Chloë Grace Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld and Elle Fanning linked with X-Men: Apocalypse
Kick-Ass star Chloë Grace Moretz, Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfeld and Maleficent leading lady Elle Fanning have all been linked with a high-profile role in X-Men: Apocalypse.
According to The Wrap, director Bryan Singer is looking to cast younger versions of iconic characters Jean Grey and Cyclops in the new blockbuster, which is to be set in the 1980s. The roles of Grey and Cyclops were played in the first three X-Men movies by Famke Janssen and James Marsden respectively.
Moretz, Steinfeld and Fanning are under consideration for the role of Grey, while Eastenders' Ben Hardy, Never Let Me Go's Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet, best known for his roles in Interstellar and Homeland, are in line for the role of Cyclops.
Production on X-Men Apocalypse is set to get underway in the spring, with a release date of May 27th 2016 currently in the diary.
Apocalypse, the film's titular villain, was first seen in the post-credit sequence for X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he was played by Brendan Pedder, you can watch the scene at the bottom of the page.
The character is the world's first mutant, born in Egypt at around 3,000 BC and is one of the series' most beloved villains.
X-Men: Apocalypse will see Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters and Nicholas Hoult return for the sequel.
