"It's similar to when record stores are closing now, there is something missing..." hmv.com talks to Colin Hank

We talk to Colin Hanks about his debut documentary on the demise of Tower Records...

From the opening of its first store in the Californian city of Sacramento up until its eventual bankruptcy in 2006, the red and yellow of the Tower Records was, for many, as synonymous with the record industry as the 'Nipper and Gramophone' logo that adorns our own stores around the world, but what was it that ultimately killed off the world famous music store chain founded by Russ Solomon?

That's the question that Colin Hanks sets out to answer in his new documentary All Things Must Pass, and you may be surprised to learn that it wasn't all the fault of Napster or even the internet at large.

With the film exclusively available in hmv stores this week, we sat down with Colin to talk about making his first feature-length documentary, his own personal memories of Tower Records and why he thinks music stores are "more than just a place to exchange goods and money."
