Don Jon: What You Need To Know

Don Jon is the brainchild of Hollywood heavyweight in the making Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he wrote, directed, produced and starred in the comedy, which hits DVD shelves on Monday (March 24th), here's what you need to know about the film…

What’s the plot?

Jon Martello, nicknamed Don Jon by his pals, because he's that good with the ladies, is a young man about town in New York. He has an active sex life, but really gets his kicks by watching a lot of online pornography, something that becomes a real problem when he meets Barbara and attempts to have a proper relationship. After their first intimate encounter, Jon can't resist a little trip to his computer for some one on one action, and, when caught in the act, is forced to confront his porn addiction head on…

Who’s in it?

The aforementioned JGL plays Jon Martello, with Scarlett Johansson donning fake nails and some ludicrously high heels as Barbara. Later on, Julianne Moore arrives as Esther, a second, more considered, less coiffured love interest.

In an inspired piece of casting, Tony Danza, best known for his star turns on Taxi? and Who's The Boss? plays Jon's father, with Short Term 12's Brie Larson as his sullen sister Monica and Glenne Headley as his mother Angela.

Does it deliver?

From the second the film starts, it's clear that this isn't just a knockabout romp, but a comedy with a big old serious message, which, at times, does detract from the humour somewhat.

Don't let that put you off though, this is a whipsmart, funny, tender and, at times, brutal look at the psyche of the modern man, and well worth a look.

Don Jon is released on DVD on Blu-Ray on Monday (March 24th).
