Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to star in Baywatch: The Movie

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is to star in a big-screen adaptation of the hugely successful 1990s TV show Baywatch.

After rumours emerged yesterday (October 2nd) that Johnson had been cast, he took to his Instagram to confirm it, posting a picture of himself aboard a jet ski and writing: ""This is my beach bitch! Rumours are true... we're making #BAYWATCH the movie. Edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell. Cue slo mo running on the beach... #WhoNeedsMouthToMouth #RedShortsBeHugginABrotha"

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new adaptation is currently being rewritten by Bad Teacher scribe Justin Malen and will be directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, who have worked on the likes of Sex Drive, We're The Millers, and, most recently, Horrible Bosses 2.

Johnson will next be seen on screen in Fast & Furious 7 and disaster thriller San Andreas, both of which will be released into cinemas next summer.
