Fast & Furious 8 - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

It began in 2001 as a little-fancied $38 million dollar thriller about a headstrong police officer who goes undercover to investigate street racing and has since grown into one of the most successful movie franchises of all time.

Its current box office gross stands at almost four billion dollars, and, with an eighth instalment on the way, expect that figure to have passed five billion by the end of the year.

In Fast & Furious 8 (which is known as The Fate Of The Furious in the US), Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell all return to star while Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and Helen Mirren all join the cast.

It has been directed by F. Gary Gray, the man responsible for Straight Outta Compton. He works from a script from Chris Morgan, who has written the last six films for the franchise.

In the new instalment we begin with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto and Rodriguez’s Letty on their honeymoon in Cuba, happy and without a care in the world, but then, when Theron’s mysterious Cipher turns up with a proposition for Toretto, he mysteriously changes side and teams up with her gang of international terrorists. Why? Well that’s for the rest of the team to find out...

It arrives on DVD shelves on Monday (October 16th) and is available to pre-order on the right-hand side of the page now, but back before it hit cinemas we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you’ll love it...

The set pieces are incredible…

The producers of the Fast and Furious seem to feel an obligation to seriously up the ante with the sheer scale and size of the stunts with every new movie, and the stunts here are enormous. You’ll be wowed over and over again.

Particularly the run through New York…

When Fast 7 saw the team drop from a plane in cars to try and take down a warlord, it looked like that was a stunt that would be difficult to top, but by god, they’ve managed it. When the team head to New York to try and catch their man, Theron’s Cipher proceeds to make it rain cars on top of them, taking over hundreds of them and dropping them from the sky. It’s quite a spectacle.

Charlize Theron is an icy marvel…

Cold, brutal and utterly without any morals or boundaries, Theron goes full wicked witch of the west here and looks like she’s having an awful lot of fun...

The Rock and Jason Statham are excellent comic relief…

Both larger than life and on excellent form in this movie, Johnson and Statham have all the best one-liners, and the film is never better than when they’re at each other's throats, physically and verbally…

It’s so much fun…

The running time is 136 minutes, so it’s a lengthy watch, but you won’t be bored for a second, the film zips along superbly! Roll on Fast 9.
