Felicity Jones confirmed to star in first Star Wars stand-alone movie Rogue One

The Theory Of Everything star Felicity Jones has been confirmed to lead the way in the first Star Wars stand-alone movie.

The movie, which is titled Rogue One, will be directed by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and will begin shooting in London this summer, with a release date of December 16th in 2016. 

Rogue One has a script from Chris Weitz, best known for directing Twilight: New Moon. No plot details about the film have been revealed in the official announcement. 

In addition to this, Looper director Rian Johnson has been confirmed to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII, the sequel to the forthcoming blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That will be released into cinemas on May 26th in 2017. 

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first of the new trilogy, is due for release on December 18th in 2015. A short teaser trailer was unveiled in December and you can see it in full below.
