First of three short films to preview Blade Runner 2049 unveiled, Jared Leto stars

The first of three short films to preview Blade Runner 2049 has been unveiled, click below to watch the first, which stars Jared Leto:

The short films, the first of which has been directed by Morgan's Luke Scott, will fill in the timeline between 2019 when the original Blade Runner was set, and the new film's beginning in 2049.

The short is titled Nexus Dawn and is set in 2036. It shows Leto's Neander Wallace as he introduces his new line of replicants to a group of magistrates. In 2036 replicants are now outlawed and Wallace is called to explain why he has continued to develop them.

The sequel to the iconic sci-fi thriller will star a returning Harrison Ford along with Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Barkhad Abdi and Ryan Gosling.

Denis Villeneuve, best known for his work on Sicario and Prisoners, has taken Ridley Scott's place in the director's chair, working from a script by Alien: Covenant scribe Michael Green and original co-writer Hampton Fancher.

Late last year the sequel was brought forward, it originally was due to hit cinemas on January 12th in 2018, but has now moved up to October 6th this year.

Released in 1982, the original movie was set in a dystopian Los Angeles told the story of Ford's Rick Deckard, a man who hunts down genetically engineered androids visually indistinguishable from adult humans known as replicants.

The sequel follows a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Gosling), who discovers a dark secret that might bring an end to humanity. K's discovery leads him to find Rick Deckard (Ford), a former blade runner who disappeared 30 years ago.
