Full details of True Detective Season Three confirmed
Full details of the third season of True Detective have been revealed.
As previously reported, Mahershala Ali, best known for his Oscar-winning role in Moonlight, will lead the series, which will see writer and creator Nic Pizzolatto joined by Deadwood scribe David Milch.
Pizzolatto will direct part of the series, with Jeremy Saulnier, best known for thriller Green Room, directing the rest.
The show will be set in the Ozark Mountains and will follow a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.
There had been speculation that HBO were considering cancelling the show, with reports suggesting that new Head of Programming Casey Bloys wanted to move Pizzolatto on to a brand new project rather than return for a third outing of True Detective, but that idea was soon shelved.
The show's first season starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as troubled detectives trying to catch a serial killer in Louisiana, with the second run starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams and switching the setting to a government conspiracy in California.
