The Shallows - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

The premise of new thriller The Shallows is a very simple one, it’s Blake Lively’s Nancy Adams versus an enormous, bloodthirsty shark.

Nancy is a  young woman grieving over the death of her mother who decides to banish the blues with a surfing trip. Surfing on an isolated beach, she finds herself stranded and marooned on a rock, trouble is, the rock is a long way from shore and there is an enormous shark between her and safety.

It hits DVD shelves this Monday (December 5th, you can pre-order it on the right-hand side of the page), but we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons you’ll love it...

The shark is incredible…

It’s enormous, it’s powerful and incredibly life-life, it’ll scare the hell out of you.

Blake Lively holds the film together brilliantly…

Given most of the film is just Lively’s Nancy stranded on a rock, clinging to her life, a lot hangs on her performance, but she’s well up to the task. Engaging and bright as well as in killer shape.

It looks stunning...

We’re willing to be that director Jaume Collet-Serra enjoyed doing the location scouting for this film quite a lot. It’s all shot on location on the Australian coast and if the tourist board haven’t paid towards the cost of the film they should at least send the makers a nice card, lots of holidays will be booked after people see those beaches…

It’s so damn tense…

For a film with such a straightforward narrative it doesn't half keep you guessing about how things are going to play out. Also, trust us, you will not see the ending coming...

It’s short and snappy…

This is a lean, tense thriller and comes in at a skinny 86 minutes, you’ll be on the edge of your seat for at least 84 of them.

The Shallows is released on August 12th and will be available to pre-order on DVD in the coming days.
