Horror thriller The Purge to return for a third time
A third instalment of horror thriller The Purge has now been confirmed.
The series, which has so far spawned the 2013 original and this summer's The Purge: Anarchy, will return for a third time.
The film will be directed by James DeMonaco, who has been behind the camera on both of the first two films, which have grossed over $200 million at the box office, despite costing just $12 million between them.
Speaking about the announcement, DeMonaco told Deadline: "I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."
The Purge is based around the concept that for one night only, all crime, including murder, is legal. Lena Headey and Ethan Hawke starred in the first film, with Zach Gilford, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogo starring in the sequel.
The Purge: Anarchy will be released on DVD on November 17th.
