Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson to return for a third series of The Fall

Fifty Shades Of Grey star Jamie Dornan and The X-Files' Gillian Anderson will return for a third series of acclaimed BBC drama The Fall.

The show's second season ended on a huge cliffhanger at the end of 2014 and there had been speculation that the show would not return for a third run, but it has now been confirmed the series will be back next year.

According to The Guardian, the show will return for a five-episode run in 2016 and this series will be the show's last.

Speaking about the third series, writer and director Allan Cubitt said: “The cliffhanger ending of season two was conceived in the hope of further exploring the characters and the themes that are at the heart of The Fall.”

The Fall follows Anderson's Stella Gibson, a highly-rated police detective who is brought over to Belfast to try and catch a serial killer named Paul Spector (Dornan). It also stars Niamh McGrady, Bronagh Waugh, John Lynch and Karan Hassan.
