Jenna Coleman confirms she is quitting Doctor Who

Jenna Coleman has confirmed that she has left her role as the Doctor's assistant Clara Oswald on Doctor Who

Speaking on BBC Radio 1 this morning (September 18th), Coleman, who has served on the show for three years, revealed that she has filmed her last scenes on the show.

She said: "I have left the Tardis - it's happened. I've filmed my last scenes. It's been in the works for a very long time. Steven Moffat and I sat down a year and a half ago and tried to work out the best place to do it and tell a really good story."

She continued: "We're not going to give any details but it will happen at some point this season. We worked out a really good story arc out so hopefully people will love it."

The star has a major new role already lined-up, she will play Queen Victoria in ITV's new drama series Victoria, a lavish new drama about the life of the long-reigning monarch and her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.

The ninth season of Doctor Who begins tomorrow (September 19th) on BBC One.
