Jessica Chastain to star opposite Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman prequel
Zero Dark Thirty and A Most Violent Year star Jessica Chastain has been cast as the lead in the prequel to 2012 fantasy blockbuster Snow White And The Huntsman.
The film, which is simply known as The Huntsman, will see Chastain play opposite Thor star Chris Hemsworth, who reprises his role as The Huntsman, with Charlize Theron also back as Queen Ravenna, reports Variety.
The original starred Kristen Stewart, Hemsworth and Theron and was directed by Rupert Sanders. Both Stewart and Sanders are not returning for the sequel, with Cedric Nicolas-Troyan now in the director's chair.
Nicolas-Troyan has never directed a feature film before, but has acted as visual effects supervisor and second unit director on a number of huge films, including Snow White And The Huntsman. He is also attached to direct the new reboot of 1980s cult fantasy film Highlander.
Nicolas-Troyan joined the project after The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont walked away earlier this year due to creative differences.
Also expected to join the cast is Emily Blunt, who was reported last month to be in advanced talks to play the film's villain.
The follow-up to Snow White and The Huntsman, which raked in almost $400 million at the box office back in 2012, is due to be released into cinemas on April 22nd in 2016.
