Kris Marshall and Tilda Swinton now favourites to become new Doctor Who

Death In Paradise star Kris Marshall and Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton have emerged as the new favourites to take over as the new Doctor Who.

According to William Hill, Marshall, who recently announced that he would not be returning to Death In Paradise, is now favourite at 7/2, with Swindon next at 4/1, to take over from Peter Capaldi, who announced at the end of January 30th that he would be leaving the role.

Next is actress Maxine Peake, who is 9/2, followed by Olivia Colman, who is at 5/1, then former Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden who is 10/1, along with The IT Crowd's Richard Ayoade.

Ben Whishaw, who had been favourite, is now 16/1, while Russell Brand, Sheridan Smith and Andrew Scott are all 25/1. Danny Dyer, who has expressed an interest in the role, is 33/1.

Capaldi was the 12th actor to occupy the role after taking over from Matt Smith in 2013 and will complete his spell on the show next Christmas when his final episode is broadcast.

Doctor Who will return for a 10th series on Easter Sunday this year.
