Kubo And The Two Strings' Travis Knight to direct Transformers Bumblebee spin-off

Travis Knight, the director who made his name with animated hit Kubo And The Two Strings, is to direct a Transformers spin-off based around the character of Bumblebee.

According to Deadline, work will begin immediately with Knight aiming to get the movie out in the summer of 2018.

The spin-off has a script from Christina Hodson, who is currently writing Gotham City Sirens, and has Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Michael Bay acting as producers

Before Bumblebee gets his own movie, there is the fifth instalment of Transformers, which arrives this time.

Titled Transformers: The Last Knight, in this movie we watch a battle for survival between the human race and the Transformers, with hero Cade Yeager forming an alliance with Bumblebee, an English lord and an Oxford professor to learn why the Transformers keep coming back to Earth.

Bay returns to direct the movie, with Akiva Goldsman supplying the script. Bay has previously said that this will be the last Transformers movie he directs.

The movie is the follow-up to 2014's Transformers: Age Of Extinction and will see Mark Wahlberg return to reprise his starring role as Yeager.  Starring alongside him are Stanley Tucci, Isabela Moner, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan, Jerrod Carmichael, Mitch Pileggi, Laura Haddock and Anthony Hopkins.

It will hit UK cinemas on June 23rd in 2017.
