Laid In America: What You Need To Know
If you spend a lot of time on YouTube then it's probable that you won't need introducing to Caspar Lee and Olajide Olatunji – the latter better known to most as KSI. Over the last few years the pair have amassed a huge following on their individual YouTube channels, Caspar's usually featuring pranks played on his friends, KSI's mostly centred around playing and talking about FIFA.
Now the pair are teaming up on the big screen for Laid in America, a film starring Capar and KSI as two exchange students who make it their mission to lose their virginity on their last night in America. Needless to say, things don't quite go to plan.
The film arrives in stores on Monday (September 26), here's everything you need to know...
Who's in it?
Alongside the two YouTubers is a cast that includes MADtv's Bobby Lee, Major Lazer's Angela Trimbur, Still The King's Madison Iseman and Angela Kinsey, who you will probably recognise from her role as Angela Martin in the American version of The Office. Sam Milman and Peter Vass, best known for their series of shorts under the name Bad Weather Films, are the ones on writing and directing duties.
What's the plot?
Duncan (Olatunji) and Jack (Lee) are two foreign exchange students enjoying life studying in the U.S.A., but with their time in America coming to an end there's an outstanding factor making their overseas experience incomplete; both of them are virgins, and the pair resolve to rectify that problem at a party being held to celebrate the last day of term.
Jack, the more sensitive of the two, is looking for real love and has a huge crush on Kaylee (Iseman), who he's hoping to score with at the party. Duncan, on the other hand, is less discerning and is out for anything he can get.
Having secured invites to the party, things soon begin to go wrong and the pair find themselves drugged and kidnapped by Goose (Bobby Lee), a would-be gangster whose not-so-secret hideout is in the basement of his mum's house. If Jack and Duncan are to realise their hopes of having their first sexual encounter, first they'll need to escape the clutches of Goose and his sidekick Amber (Trimbur).
Does it deliver?
Landing somewhere between American Pie and The Inbetweeners, Laid in America has been described by the makers as a “sex, stupidity and fun for a millennial audience”, which pretty much hits the nail on the head. If you're already a fan of Caspar and KSI's YouTube shenanigans then you'll find plenty to enjoy about Laid In America. Don't expect anything too intellectual here, you won't find it, but you will find plenty of gags and lots of silliness.
