Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan and Joe Alwyn to star in historical epic Mary Queen Of Scots
Suicide Squad Margot Robbie, Brooklyn Saoirse Ronan and Joe Alwyn, breakthrough star of Billy Lynn's Long Half-Time Walk, are to star in a new historical epic based on the life of Mary Queen Of Scots.
The movie has been in development for more than a decade, but finally looks set to come together with this new iteration.
It will tell the story of Mary, the cousin of Queen Elizabeth I, who was taken to France and betrothed to King Henry II's eldest son Francis. But the marriage is short-lived when Francis dies a year after being crowned king following his father's death and Mary returns to Scotland in an attempt to regain favour with her cousin, only to find herself viewed as a potential rival for the throne.
Ronan will play Mary with Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I and Alwyn playing Elizabeth's counsellor and one-time lover Robert Dudley.
The movie will be the film debut of Josie Rourke, an acclaimed theatre director and current artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse theatre in London.
