Michelle Williams joins Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed in Spider-Man spin-off Venom

Michelle Williams has signed up for a starring role in new Spider-Man spin-off Venom.

Hardy, who has just finished filming the fourth series of Peaky Blinders, will take the role of Eddie Brock in the new movie, which is to be directed by Zombieland man Ruben Fleischer.

The movie will be released on October 5th in 2018 with production getting underway soon.

Venom, one of the most beloved Spider-Man villains, is an alien parasite that needs a human host to survive, who, in return, the alien vests its victim with incredible powers. He has previously been portrayed on screen by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire's last movie in the role.

Williams' casting was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, but it's not known, as yet, what role she will play.
