Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

Tim Burton’s love of the gothic, odd and peculiar is what has made him stand out as one of Hollywood’s most interesting and iconic directors and so when he was offered the chance to direct his lavish adaptation of Ransom Riggs' bestselling novel about a home where children with an array of special powers and abilities live, he took it on without much hesitation.

Here he directs Eva Green and Asa Butterfield as we follow a young boy named Jake who discovers that his late grandfather has left him a series of clues, clues that lead him to a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

Back before the movie hit the big screen, we caught an early screening and rounded up five reasons why we think you’ll love it…

The film looks incredible…

No expense has been spared in bringing Riggs’ boundless imagination to life, especially with the peculiars and their various talents. It’s a hell of a spectacle...

Eva Green is wonderful…

She was the best thing in Burton’s 2012 thriller Dark Shadows and she lights up the screen every time she’s on it here, which, fortunately, is a lot.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr Barron is terrifying…

The Avengers star is well-versed at playing blockbuster villains, but he’s in particularly fine fettle here. Barron is the shapeshifting leader of the Wights and Hollows, the dastardly gang who hunt Peculiars and devour their eyes upon capture to recover human form. He’s a gruesome, shapeshifting marvel here...

The supporting cast are on good form too…

Everyone is on form here, but particularly delightful are Judi Dench's avuncular Esmeralda Avocet and Chris O'Dowd's wonderfully eccentric Frank Portman.

There’s plenty of room for a sequel here…

Riggs has already written the follow-up novel and we’d love to see this cast back again. Let’s hope it does.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children is released on DVD on Monday (February 6th) and is available to pre-order here from hmv’s online store.
