Need For Speed sequel to go into production later this year

A sequel to racing blockbuster Need For Speed is to go into production later this year.

The 2013 movie was based on the hugely successful computer game series and starred Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, Michael Keaton, Dominic Cooper and Imogen Poots. It told the story of Tobey Marshall, a street racer who is framed for the murder of a close friend and leaves prison hellbent on revenge.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the sequel is a joint venture between China Movie Channel, Jiaflix and 1905.com, who have teamed up with game publisher Electronic Arts to make the film.

The involvement of the Chinese companies means much of the film will be shot in China and with a large number of local actors set to be involved.

Need For Speed grossed over $200 million at the box office back in 2013, over $65 million of which came from China. There is currently no word on whether Paul, director Scott Waugh or any of the other key cast will return for the sequel.
