One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and Jack Whitehall linked with key roles in biopic of Leicester City's Jamie Vardy

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, comedian Jack Whitehall and former Westlife man Nicky Byrne have all been linked with key roles in the forthcoming biopic of Leicester City FC and England striker Jamie Vardy.

According to The Sun, Adrian Butchart, the filmmaker behind the project, has Tomlinson (pictured far-right) lined up for the role of Vardy himself with Whitehall to play his agent, John Morris, and former Westlife star Nicky Byrne to be goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Byrne has experience in this regard as he was on the books of Leeds United as a goalkeeper as a teenager.

Butchart told the paper: "It’s so very important to the authenticity of the football sequences to have actors who can also play well. After the [Soccer Aid] game, several of the celebs expressed an interest in being in the film. Peter Schmeichel [Father of Kasper] was at the event and at first expressed some doubts at the idea of Nicky playing his son. But after he had seen video footage on a phone of Nicky going through his goalkeeping routines I think the big man was won over."

Butchart has experience when it comes to bringing football to the big screen after serving as the screenwriter on Goal! and Goal! 2: Living The Dream

Vardy, who is currently in the England squad for the European Championships in France, was playing non-league football four years ago, but in the time in between has risen to lead Leicester City to the Premier League title, breaking the record for goals in consecutive Premier League matches in the process.
