Pacific Rim 2 gets a new title and a first look image
The sequel to Pacific Rim has been given a brand new title.
The movie had been expected to be named Pacific Rim: Maelstrom but has now been changed to the simpler Pacific Rim: Uprising.
As well as this, new star John Boyega has shared the first look at him in the sequel, you can see it below:
It had looked for most of 2016 like the chances of a sequel to the blockbuster, which was created and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, were slim after Legendary Pictures pulled the movie from its schedule and no replacement date was put in, but at the end of the year it was confirmed that production will begin later this year and that Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Boyega will playing a leading role.
Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost in the new movie. Scott Eastwood will also take a key role in the movie, while Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman all return.
Steven S. DeKnight, best known as the creator of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its assorted spin-offs, will direct the movie.
The movie starred Charlie Hunnam, Kikuchi and Elba and was set in the future where a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, in the midst of that a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon and try to save humanity. Plot details are currently under wraps.
