Penguins of Madagascar - Five Reasons You'll Love It

This holiday season it’s all about penguins! From John Lewis parading them all over our televisions, now penguins come to the big screen. And not just any penguins, but the beloved foursome from Madagascar.

Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private are back in their own spinoff filled with their organised carnage. We caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you’ll love it…

You don’t need to have seen Madagascar...

They may be the cute and cuddly penguins from Madagascar, but this mischievous foursome come into their own in this crazy adventure. We get to see the origin of this feathered undercover team with barely a mention of their past film exploits. You don't need to have seen Madagascar, but we recommend you do...

It may be an animation meant for kids but there are plenty of treats for the adults…

Amid all the classic kid humour keep your ear out for some excellent puns. Especially the celebrity puns, there are some corkers, a personal favourite of ours was “Kevin, bake on, we are still going to need that celebratory cake…”

John Malkovich voicing Dave is genius...

The villain in this story is Dave the octopus who was kicked out of zoo after zoo because everyone wanted to see the four penguins over a slimy octopus. In revenge Dave disguises his tentacled self as a scientist out to ruin all penguins for the public. With its icy blast of a voice, Malkovich does a supreme job...

Benedict Cumberbatch is one cool pooch...

Even if he can’t pronounce penguins, he embodies a cool Bond demeanour as captain of the undercover team The North Wind excellently. And the rest of his team are pretty great, including The Hangover’s Mr. Chow, Ken Jeong as a pyromaniac seal…

There are some great action set pieces...

A chase through the streets of Venice between squid and penguins on a gondola using its oars as stilts is just one of the many hilarious scenes that you can expect and it just keeps on coming. It’s frantic, it’s silly and it’s awesome!

Penguins of Madagascar is released into cinemas today (5th December).
