Predestination: What You Need To Know

Part Minority Report, part Looper and a whole lot of 12 Monkeys, Predestination is a sci-fi thriller that’s pretty low on budget, but very high on ideas. It’s released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Monday (April 6th), here is everything you need to know about it…

What’s the plot?

We follow a temporal agent (he’s only ever known as The Bartender), an agent who travels through time stopping crimes before they happen and then flitting away, leaving humanity safer, but none the wiser. Trouble is, he’s reaching the end of his career, but there’s still one criminal who has always eluded him, a bomber with his sights set on the murder of thousands of people.

To help him catch the bomber and to pass on his wisdom and edge gently into retirement, The Bartender recruits Jane, who takes some convincing to join him on this rather unlikely quest, but once she’s in, she’s in for the whole ride…

Who’s in it?

Ethan Hawke leads the way as the man we only get to call The Bartender, while Australian Sarah Snook plays Jane. There are also small roles for Noah Taylor, Madeleine West and Christopher Kirby.

Does it deliver?

For a film with such big ideas, it’s amazing that filmmakers Peter and Michael Spierig have been able to get the whole thing done for a budget of just three million dollars.

It’s engaging, it’s captivating and lots of fun. Well worth shelling out for.
