Release date announced for The Lego Movie sequel

Warner Bros. has announced release dates for a trio of new Lego films, including a sequel to their surprise 2014 hit The Lego Movie, which is due to open in cinemas on May 18th 2018.

The sequel will be preceded by two other films featuring the Danish building bricks, beginning with the as-yet untitled Lego Batman movie, due to arrive on February 10th 2017, followed by another Lego-related title, Ninjago, which is set to hit cinema screens later in 2017 on September 22nd .

The Lego Movie's director duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are already attached to the sequel as producers, while Robot Chicken's Chris McKay has been named as the man who will helm the Lego Batman movie.

Warner Bros. executive Dan Fellman issued a statement following the announcement saying: "These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.”
