Rian Johnson opens up about his plans for the new Star Wars trilogy

Rian Johnson has opened up about his plans for his brand new Star Wars trilogy.

Back in November, it was announced that Johnson would be writing and directing a whole new trilogy of films set in the Star Wars universe, extending the franchise well beyond the third trilogy currently in progress and masterminded by J.J. Abrams.

Speaking to hmv.com ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Johnson revealed his excitement at the new project.

He said: "I don't feel drained coming out of this process, I feel really energised and I'm ready to jump in. I am the very beginning of coming up with this new trilogy, but the potential is so exciting. It's one story told over three movies, we're going to go to new places, we're going to meet new characters, there's a wide open blue sky."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released into UK cinemas on Thursday (December 14th) and will be available to pre-order from hmv’s online store on the same day.
