Sarah Michelle Gellar has revealed that she is to star in the new TV reboot of Cruel Intentions.

The actress, who played Kathryn Merteuil in the original 1999 movie, will play the same role in the new TV series. She confirmed the news on Instagram last night (February 24th).

The TV series is set to pick up 15 years after the film, it will reportedly see Gellar's Kathryn vie for control of Valmont International and the soul of Bash Casey, who is the son of her late brother Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove.

Gellar starred alongside Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon in the original movie, which was a modern day retelling of 1782 French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. Released in 1999, it was a box office success with a gross of $75 million and spawned two straight to DVD sequels.
