Spider-Girl coming to the big screen?

Sony and Marvel are reportedly in discussions about a spinoff to Spider-Man featuring a female lead, although at this stage it's unclear whether this will be Spider-Girl, Spider-Woman or one of the other female characters from the franchise, such as Black Cat.

According to Deadline, the script to the film is currently being worked on by Lisa Joy, the woman behind Westworld and Burn Notice, among others, and could be set to hit the cinemas in 2017.

The story comes in the wake of comments made by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige this week, who says he plans to have a female-led film out "sooner rather than later", adding that: "I think it comes down to timing, which is what I've sort of always said, and it comes down to us being able to tell the right story. I very much believe in doing it."
