"The banks knew what was going to happen, but they knew they'd get bailed out..." hmv.com talks to Rafe Spall about The Big Short

On paper, The Big Short is one of the more unusual films to find itself in amongst this year's Oscar nominations; one the one hand, it's a film about banking and hedge funds that depicts the events that led to the 2008 housing market collapse that sparked a financial crisis across the world - a subject with all the potential to be as dry as an August stroll in the Sahara. On the other, it's directed by Adam McKay, a director known primarily for his work on comedy films like Anchorman, The Other Guys and Step-Brothers, and with The Big Short he's made a film that not only explains the reasons behind the crash, but does so in a way that is way more entertaining than you'd imagine is possible.

The film's cast is an impressive one too, featuring Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Rafe Spall. As the film hits DVD shelves, we sat down with Rafe to discuss the film and why everyone who's ever wondered what the bankers were really up to in 2008 should head to the cinema to see it...
