The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

After 65 million books and over $2.9 billion in box office receipts The Hunger Games is about to take its final bow with the release of Mockingjay Part Two on DVD. Back when it was released into cinemas we caught an early screening of the series’ epic finale and here are five reasons we reckon you’ll love it…

It’s all action…

With three films already gone all the explaining has pretty much been done, all you need to know this time round is that the rebellion and the capitol are at war and it’s getting really nasty. Fairly early on in the movie Katniss, Gale, Peeta and a few fellow soldiers find themselves right in the heart of enemy territory and on the run. From there on out it’s all go and it makes for a brilliant watch.

Some of the set pieces are incredible…

In an effort to try and snare the rebels President Snow decides to turn to his games makers, the men and women who create the traps that make The Hunger Games themselves quite so deadly, they in turn place thousands of traps around the Capitol, traps that Katniss and co have to try and avoid, they don’t always succeed, leading to some breathtaking action set pieces, proper edge of your seat stuff...

Jennifer Lawrence is a total badass…

You knew that already, but here she’s on particularly awesome form this time around, the reason everyone fell in love with Katniss in the first place is because she was a heroine like no other and this movie allows Lawrence to show off every facet of her character.

It’s a long watch, but it never drags…

Clocking it at almost two and a half hours, the final part is a not a short watch, but the time zips by. You’ll be gripped from beginning to end.

It’s a fittingly finale…

If you’ve read the books you’ll know that the series doesn’t have a terribly neat ending and one that would be difficult to transfer to screen easily. We won’t spoil the ending, but it’s a good one. Faithful, but not to a fault, it’s a climax that’s both sombre and triumphant, it sums up the series perfectly.
