The Jungle Book - Five Reasons You’ll Love It

Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel about Mowgli, an orphaned human boy who finds a new family and home in the jungle, has been told many, many times since its publication 122 years ago, but perhaps never in such glorious technicolour as earlier this year.

Jon Favreau, best known for his work on Iron Man and Swingers, directs a voice cast that includes Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, and Christopher Walken, with newcomer Neel Sethi playing Mowgli.

It took almost $950 million at the box office and comes to DVD shelves on Monday (August 22nd). We caught a screening back when it hit cinemas earlier this year and have rounded up five reasons why you’ll love it...

It looks absolutely incredible…

The scenes of the jungle are absolutely breathtaking, it’s lush, it’s dark, it’s luscious and incredibly immersive, you’ll be wowed by the visuals.

The voice cast is perfectly chosen…

From Scarlett Johansson's beguiling snake to Christopher Walken’s enormous ape, Favreau’s choices of voices to go with these larger than life animals are impeccable.

Particularly Bill Murray and Idris Elba…

Murray voices Baloo and brings his characteristic laconic charm to the role, especially when he belts out ‘The Bear Necessities’ while Elba’s sinister tiger Khan is a menacing marvel.

Neel Sethi is an incredible find…

Favreau has spoken about the process of finding his Mowgli and the thousands of child actors he saw, but he kept coming back to Sethi. It’s easy to see why, he’s charming, cute and incredibly engaging. A real find.

And there’s already a sequel on the way…

Jon Favreau and Neel Sethi are confirmed to return for a second movie, which is due to hit cinema screens in 2018. We can’t wait...
