"When we put Idris and Kate together, it was fire..." hmv.com talks to The Mountain Between Us director Hany Abu-Assad

Hany Abu-Asad's star has been in the ascendancy in recent years, with the director picking up the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes and a well-deserved second Academy Award nomination for his moving 2013 film Omar.

His latest film arrives in cinemas this week and stars Idris Elba and Kate Winslett as two strangers forced to bond to survive when a plane crash leaves them stranded in the harsh environment of the Uinta Mountains. With no sign of help on the way, the pair face a battle to reach civilisation before they starve or freeze to death, and wind forming an unlikely romatic bond in the process.

With The Mountain Between Us arriving in UK cinemas this Friday (October 6th), we sat down with the director to talk about the importance of the chemistry between the film's two leads, the challenges of filming in an unorgiving climate, and why he wants his next film to be set somewhere warm.
