"One of the key tenets of a monster movie is that you have to fear the monster, and fear for the monster..." hmv.com talks to the cast & director of The Mummy
An ancient Egyptian princess is set to make her arrival in UK cinemas this weekend in Alex Kurtzman's brand new reboot of The Mummy, a film that takes its cue from Karl Freund's 1932 original rather than the 1999 film starring Brendan Fraser. Not only that, but the film serves as the gateway to the 'Dark Universe', an upcoming series of films that will feature some of the most famous creatures from Universal's classic monster movies such as Frankenstein and The Invisible Man.
This time around the leading man is none other than Tom Cruise, who stars alongside a cast that includes Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Sofia Boutella. In Kurtzman's new reimagining of the classic story it's a princess, not a Pharaoh, who rises from the dead to wreak havoc and revenge, and with the film hitting cinema screens this Friday (June 9th) and available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-Ray and two steelbooks exclusive to hmv, we sat down with Alex, Annabelle, Jake, Courtney and Sofia to talk about this new take on an old classic.
