The Purge 3 confirmed for a 2016 release
A third instalment of horror thriller The Purge will be released in the summer of 2016.
The series, which has so far spawned the 2013 original and last summer's The Purge: Anarchy, will return for a third time on July 1st in 2016. This means that there will be a two-year gap between films, rather than the single year gap that took place between the first two movies.
The film will be directed by James DeMonaco, who has been behind the camera on both of the first two films, which have grossed over $200 million at the box office, despite costing just $12 million between them.
The Purge is based around the concept that for one night only, all crime, including murder, is legal. Lena Headey and Ethan Hawke starred in the first film, with Zach Gilford, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogo starring in the sequel.
The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy are out now on DVD.
